DALLAS, TX, September 17, 2012 — Nighthawk, a leading wireless smart grid solutions provider, announced today that McWane Technology, LLC, an affiliate of McWane Inc., has acquired a majority interest in Nighthawk. Since 1921, McWane has been a global leader in water infrastructure products and is one of the largest privately-held companies in the United States. McWane plans to invest additional capital into Nighthawk to accelerate its wireless smart grid solution business, which has secured over 60 different utility customers since its launch less than two years ago.
Nighthawk’s technology and solutions uniquely address the challenges of US and international utilities and energy companies by coupling intelligent devices, secure cloud applications and wireless connectivity. Nighthawk provides a variety of solutions via public wireless, including electric meters, remote disconnect devices, load control applications, and more, that are immediately deployable where and when a customer needs them. The flexibility of Nighthawk’s solutions enables customers to achieve their goals without having to replace entire systems, which allows them to generate high returns on their investment.
“Nighthawk is an important addition to our growing machine-to-machine communications business,” said Key Foster, Senior Vice President of McWane Global. “Nighthawk’s CEO, Charles Kitowski, has extensive executive experience in the electricity and natural gas sectors, and we are pleased to benefit from his leadership as we move into this new energy and utilities industry vertical. We also plan to incorporate advanced technologies from Synapse Wireless, another McWane M2M company, to broaden Nighthawk’s capabilities significantly.”
“We are delighted to partner with McWane and its other M2M companies, and we view this transaction as a natural evolution of Nighthawk’s strategy to deliver unique solutions worldwide,” said Charles Kitowski, CEO of Nighthawk. “We look forward to better enabling our customers to manage their costs, improve their customer service and make responsible investments on behalf of their stakeholders.”
